Section 223 - Combined Police and Fire Civil Service Commissions
Section 223:00. Establishment and Membership. There is hereby created pursuant to Minnesota Statutes, Section 419.02, Subd. 2, a combined Civil Service Board for Police and Fire Departments, which shall initially be composed of six (6) members - three (3) sitting members from the Police Civil Service Commission, and three (3) sitting members from the Firemen's Civil Service Commission, and, after three (3) years, shall consist of three (3) members.
Section 223:05. Terms of Office. The terms of office shall be for each member three (3) years. Commissioners originally appointed shall have their terms extended to April 30 in the respective year of expiry. On April 30, 1987, two (2) original members' terms shall expire and the Mayor shall appoint one (1) person to the commission. On April 30, 1988, two (2) original members' terms shall expire and the Mayor shall appoint one (1) person to the commission. On April 30, 1989, two (2) original members' terms shall expire and the Mayor shall appoint one (1) person to the commission.
No appointment to the commission shall be effective until approved by the City Council by majority vote. No member shall be allowed more than three (3) terms of service, including terms served on the Police Civil Service Commission and the Firemen's Civil Service Commission.
Section 223:10. Duties of the Commission. The commissioners shall have and exercise all the duties and responsibilities detailed in Chapter 419 and Chapter 420, Minnesota Statutes.
