JOB TITLE: Facilities Technician - Electrician

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Building Maintenance Foreman DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Seasonal Employees

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: High School graduate with five years electrical experience, plus State licensing as Class A Master Electrician. NATURE OF WORK: To perform general electrical and remodeling of governmental buildings and other city fixtures. To operate and maintain heating and cooling equipment for all city buildings. ______________________________________________________________________________

WORK PERFORMED/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
I. Responsible for the maintenance of electrical systems relative to buildings and to various forms of outdoor lighting.

A. Inspects and repairs electrical systems as they relate to buildings, building amenities, sports lighting, security lighting, and traffic control lighting.
B. Recommends to the Building Maintenance Foreman, replacement items necessary to maintaining service and safety, or which will improve energy efficiency.
C. Recommend electrical design considerations as they relate to remodeling or new construction.
D. Submit reports and maintain files as requested.

II. Participate in the maintenance and inspection of low pressure boiler system.

III. Performs general building maintenance as directed.
A. Perform singularly, or assist other employees on a variety of duties, which can include plumbing, carpentry, masonry, painting, plastering, and grounds care.

IV. Supervises and instructs seasonal employees:
A. Demonstrate and effectively communicate the safe operation of equipment and tools to seasonal employees.
B. Communicates work orders and directions to seasonal employees and reports employee problems to the Building Maintenance Foreman.

V. Performs other related tasks as assigned.
A. Plow and sweep streets, sidewalks, and parking lots.

EXTENT AND TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH PUBLIC: Answers questions of the general public when in the field or directs public to the proper authority.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:
I. A Class A CDL Minnesota driver's license.
II. Masters electrician license for the State of Minnesota.
III. Boiler license.
IV. Brown Traffic EPAC Controllers - NEMA series

EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION:
I. Employee must be capable of operating a variety of equipment relative to this position which shall include but may not be limited to: boom trucks, portable lifts, trenchers, backhoe, skid loaders, ladders, safety harness, hand and power tools, pipe benders, threading machine, pumps, generators, computers, fax and copy machines, underground locators, circuit tracers, mobile radios, phones, calculators and multiple meters.

WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS:
I. Generally 7:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work is required. This is a non-exempt position.
II. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may frequently be exposed to outside weather conditions including extreme heat and humidity, extreme cold, as well as wet and slippery conditions. While outside the employee is occasionally exposed to direct sunlight, dust, pollen, and equipment exhaust fumes. The employee may need to traverse rough and uneven terrain and paved and unpaved trails. The employee occasionally works with toxic or caustic chemicals. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate but can be loud when around machinery or equipment.

In compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act the following represents the Physical and Environmental Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employees is regularly required to walk on uneven and rough terrain as well as paved and unpaved trails, use hands and arms to handle and manipulate objects, tools or controls; and operate foot controls on equipment. The employees frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. When operating or training others in equipment operation the employee is frequently exposed to bouncing, jostling, twisting, and turning of the upper body. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally must lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
