Special Events:

Darn Near Full Moon Festival - CHANGE OF DATE  - February 7Join us Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 5:30pm for hotdog roasting on the Morehouse softball field, followed by a book trail on the path.  Rent skis or snowshoes at a discount for the day and make your way down the trail while enjoying the book "The Mitten".  Then join us at the Chalet for hot chocolate, treats, and a short winter movie.  All ages welcome!  This event is free except for the cost of equipment rental.  Click here for flyer.

Boot Hockey Tournament - February 7:  The 1st annual Boot Hockey Tournament will be held at Morehouse park on the outdoor rinks.  Both youth (15 & younger) and adult tournaments will be double elimination, 5 vs 5.  Door prizes will be given to the 1st-3rd place youth teams and cash prizes will be awarded to 1st-3rd adult teams.  Registration deadline is January 28.  Click here for flyer and registration.

Family Ice Fishing Event - February 8: At Lake Chase from 1:30-3:30PM. Join us for a fun-filled afternoon on the ice. Learn ice safety tips, do some fishing, win prizes and enjoy FREE hot chocolate! No equipment is required, but please bring your own gear if possible as there will be a limited amount of ice fishing rods. Kids 15 and under can fish without a fishing license and bait will be provided. This event is offered in partnership with the Owatonna SeniorPlace, Cabela’s, and Youth First. Click here for flyer.

Science Museum Trip - March 6:  Who:  Kids in grades K-8 (adults/parents are welcome and must pay fee when registering), must currently be in 3rd grade to attend without an adult.  When:  Friday, March 6th, bus will depart City Hall at 8:30am and return by 3:30pm.  Cost:  $15 per person, bring a sack lunch or concessions are available.  Register online or at our office.

Boat & Water Safety - April 4:  This event is FREE and will take place Saturday, April 4th from 9am - 1pm.  Students will begin work on the Watercraft Operator’s Permit packet.  This allows youth (ages 12-18) to operate jetskis, boats, and other watercraft greater than 25 hp.  Minnesota DNR Conservation Officers lead the class and will demonstrate various equipment.  A special in-water session will be held at 11:30am.  Class participants wishing to test their life jacket and other lifesaving accessories need to bring a swimsuit, towel and CLEAN life jacket.  Classroom portion will be held at SeniorPlace Multi-Purpose Room, in-water session held at West Hills Tennis & Fitness Center.  The public is welcome to attend the water rescue demonstration at 11:30am.  There is no cost for the class, but you must register by March 20.

Morehouse Chalet Ice Skating:

The Morehouse Chalet is open!  The two south ponds and inline rink are open and the river opens  Saturday, January 10th. 

Chalet Hours:

Monday-Friday: 3:00-9:00pm

Sunday: 12:00-9:30pm

Saturday, Holidays and School Vacation Days: 11:00am-9:30pm

Family bonfires are held Saturdays at 5:30pm (starting Saturday, Jan. 10) – bring your own hotdogs and marshmallows!  Skate rentals are available for $6 for two hours and ski rentals are $12 for the day.

Registration begins February 27th for the following:

  • T-Ball & Squirt Ball
  • Therapuetic Rec: Leisure Swim

Park Pavilion Rentals

Pavilion Rentals are available one year in advance.  Call the Parks and Recreation office at 444-4321 or stop by our office to make a reservation. Payment is due at the time of the reservation.
