| AARP has certified trained counselors assist the elderly, handicapped, low-income tax payers, English as a second language and the military. (Military includes National Guard-active/inactive) Trained in cooperation with the IRS, the volunteers are knowledgeable about federal and state income taxes and MN Property Tax Refund. This service is free. Donations are accepted and used for scholarships for seniors to join SeniorPlace. Tax Assistance starts in February 1, 2012 through April 15, 2012. Appointments are made by calling 507-444-4280. If this is a military return, please indicate this when making the appointment. After April 15, 2012, AARP certified trained counselors will help Steele County residents with property tax refunds.
Free Tax Prep begins February 2 , 2012 Trained AARP volunteers offer free tax help beginning February 2, 2012, make appointments after January 9, 2012. Those eligible to use free tax assistance are taxpayers with middle-low income, special attention to those age 60 and older. If you have full tax preparation to be done, make an appointment prior to the April 15, 2012 deadline. For those filing MN Property Tax Refund or Renter’s Credit only, a separate date. Please have the following documents and information with you: (1) Last year’s income tax return (2) Interest, dividend, and pension statements (3) Health Insurance premiums (4) Contributions to church and charities (5) Medical expenses (6) Real estate tax (for MN Property Tax Refund) (7) Social Security statements |
