JOB TITLE: Recreation Supervisor

DEPARTMENT: Park and Recreation

DIVISION: Recreation

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Assistant Recreation Director

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Tennis and Fitness Center Staff, Aquatics staff, or other recreation staff.

NATURE OF WORK: This individual is responsible for the day to day operation of the Tennis and Fitness Center, Aquatics program and seasonal Bike/Skate Park.

MINIMUM EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: Four year college graduate of recreation leisure services, physical education, or related field with 2-3 years supervisory experience or with 5 years experience in related field. Also, must have Recreational Supervisory experience, Certified Pool Operation (CPO) certification, CPR and First Aid Certifications, WSI Instructor, Lifeguard Instructor Certifications.

WORK PERFORMED/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Directs Tennis & Fitness Facility and recreational programs in accordance with budget guidelines as established by Park & Recreation Department.

A. Prepares and justifies budget request for assigned areas of direct responsibility

B. Assumes direct responsibility for fiscal compliance for assigned areas of responsibility.

C. Submits biweekly payrolls of part-time employees.

D. Submits daily revenue deposits to Park and Recreation office.

E. Reviews and approves all expenditures for which control has been assigned.

II. Assigns Tennis/Fitness, Aquatics and Skate Park staff to duties as established by job descriptions or work orders established by Assistant Recreation Director.

A. Must instruct staff by way of in-service training for specific duties.

B. Will be responsible for supervision and inspection of employee duties.

C. Will prescribe high standards of performance and efficiency by employees

D. Recommend employee decisions/evaluations regarding performance, hiring, discipline, and other staffing concerns.

III. Maintains departmental records in accordance with established guidelines

IV. Coordinates use of the Indoor Tennis and Fitness Facility to assure full and efficient use.

A. Conducts an effective marketing program to maximize usage of facilities.

V. Shall be responsible for suggesting/ordering supplies and requesting building maintenance when needed. Shall receive approval to make purchases that are felt needed.

VI. Shall work closely with and attend meetings that are required by the Assistant Recreation Director.

VII. Will write pertinent news releases and will be involved in preparing information for a Tennis and Fitness Center newsletter/promotional flyer. Also will assist in gathering information for the department brochures and flyers.

VIII. Shall be responsible for teaching lifeguard training class,WSI training class, lifeguard in-service, minimum of one session of swimming lessons per year, subbing of water aerobic classes, and oversee the water aerobics and aquatic programs.

IX. Will be required to be familiar with Tennis & Fitness Center's pool filtration system and its operation. Also, will be responsible to know pool maintenance standards. Must hold a current Certified Pool Operator (CPO) certificate.

X. Shall perform other duties as prescribed by the Assistant Recreation Director REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS

I. Must possess a valid Minnesota Driver's License

II. Must hold a current Certified Pool Operator certificate

III. CPR and First Aid Certifications

IV. WSI Instructor

V. Lifeguard Instructor

EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION

I. Employee must be capable of operating miscellaneous office and other equipment relative to this position which shall include but may not be limited to: personal computer, copier, fax machine, motor vehicles, communication equipment and related items.

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to seventy-five (75) pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

I. Develops public understanding and participation in Parks and Recreation programs through public relations activities.

A. Interprets to the public the program, its philosophy and objectives through all suitable means.

B. Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with other public and volunteer community agencies.

C. Achieve public relation objectives through speaking engagements and use of media.
