JOB TITLE:Senior Citizen's Director
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
DIVISION: SeniorPlace

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Director of Parks and Recreation

DIRECTION OF OTHERS: Part time employees and volunteers

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: A Bachelor of Arts degree in Social Sciences or a Bachelor of Science degree in Leisure Services; or equivalent. Minimum of three years of management experience in the field of gerontology preferred.

NATURE OF WORK: Plans, organizes, and supervises all functions and programs of SeniorPlace. This individual is the supervising staff person for the SeniorPlace Inc.

WORK PERFORMED/AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

I. Conducts research and subsequent evaluations to determine the needs of senior citizens, ages 55 and older.

A. Stays abreast of trends and needs of members.
B. Acts as an advocate and liaison for members
C. Works closely with service providers, ie. Semcac, Legal Services, Green Thumb, etc.

II. Performs required administrative functions.

A. Submits an annual detailed budget request to the Director of Parks and Recreation
B. Operates within approved budget allocations.
C. Prepare grants and coordinate fund raising activities.
D. Hire, train and evaluate Senior Center staff
E. Skill in working with and supervising diverse adults.
F. Prepares monthly, annual, and specail reports as requested (City, SeniorPlace Board, and other agencies.)
G. Coordinates facility usage through effective working relationship with City, County, and local residents along with the monthly billing of the rentals.
H. Coordinate facility safety and maintenance, includes furniture and equipment.

III. Promotes SeniorPlace and its mission.

A. Develops effective brochures, promotional materials, press releases, and weekly radio and column along with television and other media deemed necessary.
B. Conducts daily correspondence as necessary.
C. Continues to work with the SeniorPlace, Inc Memorial Committee on the concept of "Leaving a Legacy".
D. Work with civic groups to obtain their involvement and support of SeniorPlace through personal contacts, speeches, and serving on local boards.
E. Maintains an open door policy by being visible and accessible.
F. Maintains web site with pertinent up to date information.

IV. Provides recommendations to the SeniorPlace Inc. Board and Park and Recreation Board relative to the policies and programs of SeniorPlace members.

A. Prepares meeting agenda's and relevant support materials.
B. Maintains SeniorPlace Board records.
C. Implements SeniorPlace Inc. and Park and Recreation Board decisions regarding programming and related policies.

V. Performs all other job related duties as assigned.

EXTENT AND TYPE OF INTERACTION WITH PUBLIC

I. Develops public understanding and participation in Parks and Recreation programs through public relations activities.

A. Interprets to the public the program, its philosophy and objectives through all suitable means. B. Establishes and maintains cooperative planning and working relationships with other public and volunteer community agencies.
C. Achieve public relation objectives through speaking engagements and use of the media.

II. Effective communication between department heads and support staff.

A. Prepares a daily information sheet for all volunteers as to happenings, events, and meetings for the day.
B. Prepares a daily information sheet for activity director, department head and office staff when out of the office.

REQUIRED LICENSES, CERTIFICATIONS AND REGISTRATIONS

I. Must possess and maintain a vailid Minnesota Driver's License.

EQUIPMENT AND TOOL OPERATION

I. Employee must be capable of operating miscellaneous office and other equipment relative to this position which shall include but may not be limited to: personal computer, copier, fax machine, motor vehicles, communication equipment, furnace, air conditioning, calculator, cable television, cookie machine, printers, scanners
telephone, and xerox machine.

WORKING HOURS AND CONDITIONS

I. This is an exempt position.

II. Maintains a work schedule permitting easy access for citizens.

III. This position works primarily in an office environment, with limited exposure to outdoor temperature variations.

In compliance with the Americans With Disabilities Act the following represents the Physical and Environmental Demands: This position requires an equal amount of time spent standing, walking, and sitting. Lifting, pushing/pulling, or carrying objects weighing up to twenty-five (25) pounds is sometimes required, with a maximum of forty (40) pounds infrequently required. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, twisting, and bending are sometimes required. Repetitive movements of the hands are sometimes required. Audio, visual, and verbal functions are essential functions to performing this position. The majority of the workday is spent indoors.
