City of Owatonna Engineering

City offices will be CLOSED on Friday, July 3rd in observation of the 4th of July. Staff will return Monday, July 6th.

Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna.

2020 Construction Projects:
Cardinal Drive SE Storm Sewer: Construction continues along Bixby Road. A detour will be in place the week of July 13th or 20th, advanced signage will be placed accordingly.

CIPPS: The contractor has completed the initial surveying and cleaning of the sanitary mains. They will begin the lining process sometime in July.

Street Maintenance: The contractor has completed the crack sealing. The Sealcoating contractor plans on starting Monday, July 6th. The seal coating process should take 2-3 days.

Overlay Project: Curb, Gutter and Pedestrian Ramps are being replaced on Linn Avenue and Southview. The Street Department will start edge milling the week of July 6th.

Curb & Gutter: Curb installation & paving has been completed. Sodding will be installed to finish the project. This may wait until the weather cools a bit.

Street & Utility: James Brothers began water main installation on Cherry Street Monday. The new main will be completed Thursday and will go live first part of next week after testing is complete. They have 8” Perforated Storm Sewer to install and then the street & path improvements will begin.

Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.
We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed.

Public Works
Street Department: Potholes and other roadway failures are repaired by the Street Division in order of priority. The problem is corrected initially by installing a temporary patching material. Then areas needing repair are prioritized by size, number and street traffic volume to see if more extensive roadway repairs are warranted.

WWTP: As a property owner, you own your sewer service from the building to the City sewer main. The City owns and maintains the sewer main which is generally located in the middle of the street. The City cleans and inspects the main lines according to the Owatonna Sanitary Sewer Maintenance Policy. Maintenance crew's use a high pressure jet of water to clean the walls of the sewer main and push material and debris downstream where it can be removed at a manhole.
