City Engineer Updates 7-10-2020

Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.

We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed.

2020 Construction Projects:
Cardinal Drive SE Storm Sewer: The Boring company is planning on starting the boring on Monday. The Contractor will be placing signs out stating Bixby Road will be closed starting the following Monday, July 20th. 
CIPPS: The contractor has completed the initial surveying and cleaning of the sanitary mains. They will begin the lining process sometime in July. 

Street Maintenance: The Contractor completed seal-coating the streets on Wednesday (July 8th) morning. The Contractor will be back in town by Wednesday, July 15th to do the final sweeping of the chip-sealed streets.

Overlay Project: Streets Department is prepping some of the streets for the bituminous overlay. Edge milling is scheduled for Wednesday (July 15th), and the paving is planned to begin in late July. 

Curb & Gutter: Sodding was completed this week to finish the project. If your property has been affected by this, please be sure to keep the newly installed sod watered. 

Street & Utility: The water main and storm sewer work has been completed. James Brothers completed removing the bituminous surface. Concrete removals will take place next week. 

Transportation Plan: Steele County and the City of Owatonna are cooperating on the development of a Transportation Plan for the City and an update to the County's Transportation Plan. There will be opportunity for public comment on transportation issues during the plans development. This plan looks at all modes of transportation from freight to pedestrian.

Public Works
Street Department: Pothole repair is continuing around town. No parking signs will be posted in the overlay areas beginning Monday. 

WWTP: Staff is currently working through permitting issues for the Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion. They expect to see the permit in place first quarter of 2021.
