City Engineer Updates 7-24-2020

Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.

We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed.

2020 Construction Projects:

Overlay Project: On Monday July 27th the street department will be putting a new blacktop surface on Thomas Ave (from Mound to Lemond) beginning at 7 am. For the duration of this project, please keep all parked vehicles off of the street and use an alternate route for travel. The crew will then move to Robert Place and Hobart Street (Cedar to Grove). Please keep do not park vehicles on the street and use and alternate route on Monday July 17th and Tuesday July 28th. Your cooperation is appreciated. 

Cardinal Drive SE Storm Sewer: Work is ongoing and there has been a detour for Bixby Road in place. This detour is expected to stay in place for 2-3 weeks. 
 
CIPPS: The contractor has completed the initial surveying and cleaning of the sanitary mains. The lining process will begin July 27th. This process is expected to take 2-3 weeks.

Street & Utility: 
  • Cherry Street: Curb and gutter and driveway aprons have been poured back. Paving is planned to begin the first week of August. 
  • Shady Avenue: Excavation work has been completed. Next week curb and gutter work will begin.
  • Greenhaven Lane: Concrete work has been completed. Grading work is still taking place. 
  • Please slow down when driving on these streets to minimize dust. 

Reminder: A permit is required when placing a dumpster in the street in front of your home. Call the Public Works Department for instructions on how to apply for a Right of Way Permit prior to having a dumpster placed. Please allow 24 hours for permit review. 

Public Works
Street Department: Pothole repair is continuing around town. No parking signs on affected streets will be in place beginning July 24th, overlay will start on Monday July 27th. 

WWTP: Sewer odors occur when basement floor drains have dried up and allow sewer gas to enter the home. These drains need to be checked periodically and refilled with water. Pour water into the drain to keep it filled. If the odor persists, call the Wastewater Treatment Facility at 507-444-2452.
