City of Owatonna Engineering

Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.

We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed.

2020 Construction Projects:

Street & Utility: Crane Creek has yet to pave the final lift on the three streets, this may take place next week.

CIPPS: The project is about 95% completed. The contractor should return in a few weeks to complete the remaining sewer pipes.

18th Street SW (Costco Distribution Site):
Shoulders are being graded. The schedule is to possibly pave shoulders next week. Ditch work needs to be completed followed by signing and striping.

Morehouse Park: Work on the bike trail at Morehouse Park will begin Tuesday, weather dependent. The trail will be relocated to the west of the Morehouse Park Chalet. This will eliminate the need to go through the parking lot to continue north on the trail. This will not affect travel on the existing trail.

Transportation Plan: The City of Owatonna is developing a 2040 Transportation Plan, and we need your input! This plan will guide future development and transportation improvements within the City for the next 20 years. Ways to get involved and provide feedback can be found here. The Online Open House will be available August 24th through September 4th. Open house to answer questions is available on Sept. 1, 2 and 3.

2021 Projects: Planning is underway for the improvements planned for 2021. All petitions for curb and gutter shall be submitted to the City Engineer's Office by September 1st.

Stormwater Management: The 12th Annual Watershed Wide Clean-up will take place in Owatonna on September 19th from 9am to 12 noon at Morehouse Park. The event is hosted in conjunction with the Cannon River Watershed Partnership, who helps to find sponsors and coordinate the clean-up event. This year's event will include some changes due to COVID-19. No gathering for group photos or lunch, social distancing will be enforced. Participants will be provided gloves and face coverings prior to signing in. Gear may be picked up ahead of time for participants to complete the clean up on their own rather than attending on September 19th. For full event information, visit the Stormwater Events Page.

Public Works
Street Department: Street patching with hotmix is ongoing as well as tree trimming and removals. Please contact the Public Works Department if you notice an issue that needs to be addressed.
