Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.

2021 Construction Projects:

2021 Truman Avenue Project Phase 1 (Main Street to Phelps Street): Northland Grading & Excavating began work this week. Work included: Mobilization, traffic control set up, documentation and photographing of existing site conditions, marking of removals and removal limits, and tree removal.

Week of Monday April 26th: The contractor plans to begin work on removals and excavation for the Phase 1 portion of the project. The items of work planned to take place next week for the Phase 1 portion of the project will involve: Clearing & grubbing, milling of existing pavement, removals, and common excavation for the underground work.

2021 Bridge Street: Construction is planned to start with Phase 1 the week of May 3rd.

2021 N Cedar Streetscape: The downtown streetscape project is moving into final plan development stage.  The project is expected to be advertised on May 5th with bids due May 26th. A video of the Streetscape Improvements Visualization is available on the project webpage.

26th Street & State Ave Roundabout: Steele County and the City of Owatonna will be constructing a roundabout at the intersection of 26th Street (County Highway 34) and State Avenue (County Highway 45). 2021 CIPPSThe Contractor, Hydro-Klean, has completed lining the sanitary sewers in the Wilson Elementary & the Bryan Ave/Martin St SW neighborhoods. They will continue lining 22nd, 23rd & 24th Streets NE between St. Paul Rd. & 7th Avenue through next week. Service should not be interrupted, should you experience issues call Hydro-Klean 24/7:1-855-845-5326. 
Public Works
Street Department: The Street Department continues to be busy with pot hole/frost boil repairs, tree trimming/removals. Boulevard trees have been ordered for those who requested replacement or new construction plantings. These trees will be planted the week of May 3rd. Planting typically takes about a week and a half, weather dependent. 

WWTP: With its plan for a new wastewater treatment facility, Owatonna is continuing to do its part to help protect the Straight, Cannon and Mississippi rivers, including Lake Byllesby and Lake Pepin. Learn more about the MPCA’s environmental review and wastewater permit for the proposed expansion:
