City of Owatonna Engineering

Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.

We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed.

2021 Construction Projects:
2021 Project Location Map

There will be a lane closure on Rose Street from Oak Avenue to Hoffman Drive for a storm sewer repair until further notice. Please slow down and use caution.

2021 Truman Avenue Project Phase 1
This week work continued on the new sanitary sewer and work was completed from Main Street to Academy Street. The remaining sanitary sewer work for phase 1 is from Academy to School Street. Rain on Thursday and Friday has delayed construction, however the project is still progressing according to schedule.

Next week the remaining portion of sanitary sewer will be completed. Then work will begin on the storm sewer beginning at Main Street working south.

Northland will continue working in the Phase 1 portion of the project, from Main St. & Truman Ave. down to School St. & Truman Ave.  Sideroad access across Truman Ave. at the intersections of Agnes St., and Academy St. will be closed to traffic for the duration of the Phase 1 underground work construction.  Sideroad access across Truman Ave. at all other intersections along the project will continue to be maintained for traffic and residents.  Temporary ramps are still in place where existing pavement has been removed in the Phase 1 portion of the project.  Drivers are encouraged to take alternative routes, if possible, to avoid construction activities on the project.  Residents needing to access the cul-de-sac at the East end of Academy St. may use the temporary access lane in-place at the East end of the cul-de-sac connecting to Main St.

2021 Bridge Street:
The plan next week is to continue culvert and storm sewer installation, as weather allows. Then either ditch grading or hauling of class 5 base material will take place.

This project is phased and is anticipated to generally follow the phasing plan. Currently, the contractor is working in the “Construction Phase 1” area as outlined in blue. Following Phase 1, work is expected to take place within Construction Phases 1A and 1B at which time, detour routes will be adjusted. A graphic of the phase routes is shown in the newsletter related specifically to the Bridge Street Reconstruction Project. To sign up for these newsletters, please visit Notify Me.

2021 N Cedar Streetscape: The project is currently advertising for bids, due May 26th and is expected to be awarded by City Council in early June.  A video of the Streetscape Improvements Visualization is available on the project webpage.

Partridge Avenue Pond: A storm water control pond is being constructed near Partridge Avenue. James Bros Construction began work on Monday and have gotten a good start. This project is expected to take approximately a month, weather dependent.
