City of Owatonna Engineering

Construction has begun and various projects can be seen around The City of Owatonna. Please slow down and use caution when approaching a construction zone.

We thank you for your patience as these projects are completed.

2021 Construction Projects:
2021 Project Location Map

Rose Street from Hoffman Drive to Oak Avenue is reopened to traffic. Crews had been making repairs to a collapsed storm sewer.

The pavement, curb and gutter, and sidewalk still need to be replaced, so traffic lanes will continue to be shifted around the repair area.

2021 Truman Avenue Project Phase 1Items of work completed this week in Phase 1 of the project include: removal of existing concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk, removal of existing sanitary sewer & storm sewer pipe, common excavation for underground sanitary sewer & storm sewer construction, installation of new sanitary sewer main & manhole structures, and installation of new storm sewer main & manhole structure.

Items of work planned for next week in Phase 1 of the project include: removal of existing concrete curb & gutter and sidewalk, removal of existing storm sewer pipe, common excavation for underground storm sewer construction, and installation of new storm sewer main, catch basins, and manhole structures.

2021 Bridge Street:  The road subbase sand was spread and compacted throughout the site during the week. The amount of rain this week has caused a few days of limited work, but the construction progress will continue next week. Next week’s planned activities include completion of storm structures and pipe, driveway crossings and ditch grading

2021 N Cedar Streetscape: Bids for the project were received on May 26th, to be heard for consideration by Council on June 1st. Construction is anticipated to begin as early as June 14th, contingent on the contractor's scheduling of operations. More scheduling information will be available in the upcoming weeks.

Partridge Avenue Pond: James Bros worked on the project this week as it was dry enough to move excavation without making a mess. Majority of the berm has been constructed and a good portion of the main cell has been excavated. If it weren’t for the rain, the contractor would have it close to completion.

26th Street & State Ave Roundabout: Bids were received by Steele County on May 25th to be awarded June 8th. See the Steele County Highway Dept website for more information regarding this project.
Public Works
Street Department: The Street Department has been busy with patching and road repairs. Potholes are continuously added to the patching list and they are working through the list as the weather permits. The tree crew has been working on getting boulevard trees trimmed.

WWTP: Effective June 1, 2021 sewer rates, charges and fees will be changing. Please see Ordinance 1614 for details. Contact our office for more information.
