26th Street & State Avenue Roundabout: The intersection of 26th Street and State Avenue (County Highways 34 and 45) will be closed for construction starting Thursday, July 29. State Avenue will be detoured via Hoffman Drive (CH 2), I-35, and 46th St NW (CH 9). 26th Street will be detoured via Cedar Avenue, North Street, Hoffman Drive, and I-35. A map showing the project area and detours is attached. The project will replace the existing signalized intersection with a roundabout to improve safety and traffic operations. 2021 Bridge Street: Work this week was primarily focused on prepping and paving Phase 1, 1A and 1B. Final trimming of the base as well as stringline, dowel baskets and supplemental reinforcement placement occurred on Monday. Concrete paving began on Tuesday with paving the westbound travel lanes including at the I-35 intersection, Wednesday paving continued with the eastbound lanes. While paving occurred, preparation of the Park Drive intersection continued and paving at the intersection began on Thursday. Continued concrete paving at the Park Drive intersection, St. John Drive, and driveways will occur next week. Following this the curb and gutter along with the median will be placed. The new concrete typically takes between 7 and 14 days before it can be driven on so please use extra caution during and after paving is occurring and do not enter the area until the road is open to traffic. Phase 1B is planned to be re-opened on July 26th, 2021 however is dependent on whether adequate strength has been reached in order to facilitate traffic to and from I-35 again. Phase 1A is expected to be complete within 30 calendar days from the start of the phase which results in an expected intermediate completion date of August 5th, 2021. Some continued work is expected to occur within Phase 1 during the week of August 9th with an expected completion of August 13th, 2021.
It is anticipated that new traffic changes will begin the week of August 16th with removals beginning within Phase 2 including the intersection of W. Bridge Street and 24th Avenue. A new detour plan and media release will be sent and detour signage will be updated.
